First edition, first printing, presentation copy inscribed on the front free endpaper, "For Louis Aborn - with all best - From Ira Gershwin". Louis H. Aborn (1912-2005) was the President from 1956 of Tams-Whitmark Music Library, the largest collection of printed and manuscript music then in existence. During Aborn's presidency Tams-Whitmark acquired rights in many of the most popular American musical stage plays and made those musicals available for presentation by schools, community theatres, and professional theatres throughout the world. He was also instrumental in developing a number of works for the musical stage including The Wizard of Oz, Meet me in St Louis, and Calamity Jane. He had close relationships to many of the great Broadway composers and writers of the 20th century, and his own presentation copy of Gershwin's lyrical anthology makes for a great association.
