Conversation in the Mountains reproduces the text of Banville's radio play Todtnauberg, an account of the 1967 meeting between Paul Celan and Martin Heidegger, and of Hannah Arendt's affair with Heidegger. It was first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on 20 January 2006.
