Collected Stories.

First edition, first printing. Inscribed by the author "To Philip, from his friend, GabM, 85" on the title page. The recipient was Irish bibliophile Dr Philip Murray, whose collection was sold in 2016 in Ireland's largest-ever sale of first editions. In his memoir, The Adventures of a Book Collector (2011), Murray writes: "I had heard that the Mexican postal system is one of the most unreliable anywhere in the world, but I decided to chance it and sent eleven books ... nearly a year went by without any further word. I was certain my luck had run out and I would never see my copies again ... the return package had burst open and had had to be repacked. All the books were inscribed and the author had drawn various images in some of them, so it was worth the wait". "These twenty-six brilliant and enchanting short stories by the 1982 Nobel Laureate are now collected in one volume for the first time. They appear in the order in which they were originally published in Spanish in three separate volumes. They were published in English in No One Writes to the Colonel and Other Stories (1968), Leaf Storm and Other Stories (1972), and Innocent Eréndira and Other Stories (1978)" (dust jacket front flap).
