Selected Poems.

First edition thus translated, with a typed letter signed from surrealist Marcel Jean (1990-1993) laid in. The letter, Paris 19 July 1969, thanks the recipient John Lyle, a bookseller, for sending him a copy of this book, but admitting "I found a howler: Melon translated as 'melon' instead of 'bowler hat'. Thanks all the same!" The offending howler has been circled in pencil with an exclamation mark in this copy. Jean's letter continues, in a jocular fashion, to discuss the impossibility of translations ("just wait until you discover my mistakes!"). As a post script, Jean thanks Lyle "for the reference about Rodker. His 'Lay of Maldoror' really should be republished." This selection of surrealist Andre Breton's poems is printed with facing French-English text.
