First edition. This copy inscribed on the half-title, in translation; "With my very kindest remembrances, Diego Rivera, Nov. 28 1942". The recipient was Bernard "Barney" Collins, a New Mexico-born industrialist and philanthropist with interests in textiles and mining, who divided his time between California and Mexico City, and who was a keen collector with works by Picasso, Dufy, Buffet, de Chirico, and the Mexican Muralists, Rivera and Alfaro Siqueiros. Collins was the original owner of the superb 1942 Vendedora de Flores, which most recently sold at auction in 1991 for $2,780,000, and also owned a smaller watercolour treatment of this central motif of Rivera's art. An nice copy with an attractive provenance.
